Economica Ltd

Description

Economica Ltd. is one of the largest and longest-established economic consulting firms in Canada specialising in the provision of litigation support in personal injury and fatal accident actions. Our areas of expertise include: the calculation of pre- and post-trial losses of earning capacity, business income, and household services; and the computation of the present value of future costs of care. In conjunction with the accounting firm of Horwath, Schroeder, and Tobin, we are able to calculate the "tax gross-up" on future damages in fatal and cost of care actions. We also supply an easily used computer program, Injury, which allows litigators to estimate the lump sum values of future losses.

For more than twenty years, Economica has been providing the highest quality assistance to Canada's litigation bar. In that time, we have written over 2,000 expert opinions, and have testified over 100 times in the Courts of Queen's Bench in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. Expert opinions have also been prepared with respect to actions in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Ohio, Washington, Montana, California, and Hong Kong. Our expertise is widely recognised. We have prepared articles on damage assessment for the Canadian Bar Review, the Alberta Law Review, University of Western Ontario Law Review, the Barrister, Canadian Public Policy, Lawyers' Weekly, the Journal of Legal Studies, and the Journal of Forensic Economics. One of our economists has also written three editions of the book Assessment of Personal Injury Damages (Butterworths). We also publish the highly respected quarterly newsletter, The Expert Witness, which contains timely articles of interest to the litigation bar.

Economica has developed an enviable reputation for preparing insightful rebuttal reports. With an extensive research library which has been developed over many years, and a staff which includes one PhD and three MAs in economics, we are in an excellent position to identify weaknesses in both plaintiffs' and defendants' arguments.
