DOTA stands for the Declaration of the Americas on Diabetes which is a consensus document that outlines a diabetes strategic plan for the Americas. DOTA is a coalition of organizations facilitating through advocacy the implementation of its strategic plan. DOTA implementation lies with each nation in the Americas.

DOTA was founded by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF-NA and IDF-SACA) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with the support of industry partners. It now includes other international and national diabetes-related organizations.

In its advocacy and facilitating role, DOTA is managed by the Executive Committee (EC), and the Secretariat. Task groups implement EC decisions and provide recommendations to the EC for future action in their particular topic area. This structure is comprised of representatives from the founder organizations, industry, and associates.
