Description
The name was a combination of DOT, JON, T, from our daughter Kathryn and A L from our elder daughter Paula. We are a small independent kennel; our aim is to breed type, quality not quantity. As a boy , John was fascinated with German Shepherds which has continued to the present day. His parents where not dog lovers or lovers of any other four legged pets so John had to settle for a budgie.
Dot has been around dogs all her life. Her parents where involved with Irish Setters and showed their male quite successfully until Dot's sisters arrived and the showing became difficult. As a twelve year old Dot asked for a Rough Collie for a birthday present. He was a lovely dog who was Dots introduction to the show ring. While Dot's sisters were taking the neighbourhood babies out in their prams, Dot always preferred the local dogs for walks including the local German Shepherd. Dot's parents later purchased two Miniature Daschunds from whom they bred successfully, the male being an open show winner.
As a couple we acquired our Golden Labrador (Pam) from rescue kennels in 1974. She settled in well with two boisterous toddlers. John still wished desperately for a German shepherd, like the ones he had seen on television and in magazines. Eventually in 1984 we purchased our Ch. Alf von Quenglebach x Vornlante Pollyanna daughter. Zierliche Dame (Shebee) became an instant member of the family. Her temperament and character was excellent around the two girls and our by now elderly Labrador who relied on her to be her eyes and ears. We thought of mating Shebee at 18months when we sadly lost our Labrador. So the hunt for a suitable stud dog started and this was not an easy task as she was a big girl. This led us to start our long-term friendship with Ray and Ann Weeks of the Amondahl kennel. Unfortunately Shebee proved unsuitable for breeding due to a hip score of 69. We continued to show her even into veteran and she became kennel mate to our first male shepherd.
