Doodlebug Cards and Stationery - Custom Handmade Greetings by Jenn Hobson in Victoria, B.C.

Description

You may be wondering where the name Doodlebug came from. Well I have to thank the writers of the 1980’s sitcom “Charles in Charge” in which the main character (Charles) is called Doodlebug by his ever affectionate mother. So when my best friend had a baby I started affectionately calling her Doodlebug… Flash forward 10 years and when brainstorming company names I thought of her and Doodlebug was a natural progression.

So I have been making cards all my life. As a child I loved craft time and I loved making my mom and dad (and yes, even my brother) cards for Christmas, Birthdays, Valentines and every other occasion I can think of. I also, from the time I can remember, loved getting cards. Over the years I have spent a small fortune buying cards for friends and family. As I aged I forgot that I loved to make handmade cards and just bought them. I had frequently purchased cards at all the retail chains and was well known to them all. I just love going into card shops, even now, and looking at all the pretty cards. I can get lost for hours and am known to ooh and ahh and occasionally drool. Pretty sad I know, but I know there are more like me out there, I see you at the market in the summer and I hear your ooh-ing and ahh-ing!

Now you are probably wondering how my little passion died and then was reborn again. Well I have to thank the YM-YWCA for that. Over the 8 years that I worked for the Y, I had the pleasure of taking some exciting and interesting courses (staff perk). One particular class I was roped into around Christmas time was a card making workshop. My passion was rekindled. Actually my husband thinks it is an obsession now, but I think he’s wrong, I can stop at any time (grin). This class was so great, I had never scrapbook-ed before and the teacher taught us some pretty simple scrapbook techniques and made it so much fun it was addictive. The group of us walked out of class that night and hit the craft store 10 minutes later and started making all our own Christmas cards. I then found myself touring craft stores and scrapbook places for paper and things and slowly my credit card was getting maxed out and my husband was getting concerned, not upset really, just concerned.
