The name is derived from Aigeus, a mythical king of Athens. When his son Theseus moved to Crete to Athens from the shameful tribute supplies to Crete (seven youths and as many young women) to liberate, (see Minotaur), promised his father Theseus, in the event of his success in his return instead of the usual black sail, which the ship had a white stops.
