Des Moines Lapidary Society and Central Iowa Mineral Society

Description

The Des Moines Lapidary Society (DMLS) was founded on May 3, 1954 with Gus Brown as founding president. We became a non-profit corporation in 1955 and member of the Midwest Federation of Mineralogical and Geographical Societies in 1956. In our 50-year history we have had many homes and are currently located at 2608 24th St. Our clubhouse has a large workshop area with rock saws, lap polishers, rock grinders and faceting machines.

Our monthly meetings are held at the clubhouse and are followed by an educational program. Open workshops and planned workshop programs allow members to increase their knowledge and improve their skills in rock cutting, faceting, silver working, and more. Current interest in beading and flint knapping is just other facets of the Des Moines Lapidary Society.
