Description
The City of Demopolis is in Marengo County which is located in the west central part of Alabama. This is commonly known as the Black Belt Region and Upper Coastal Plain Area. Demopolis is strategically positioned within the geographic triangle formed by Tuscaloosa to the north, Mobile to the south and Montgomery to the east.
Linden, the County seat, is located 15 miles south of Demopolis on Highway 43 South. The population of Marengo County is 24,000 with an estimated population of 70,000 within a 30-mile radius.
Historic Demopolis is located at the confluence of the Tombigbee-Black Warrior Rivers. The construction of the Demopolis Lock and Dam created a 10,000 acre lake which is enjoyed by many for boating, fishing and recreational opportunities.
