Defining Normal is a reality series of the Carroll family from small-town Prosper, Texas. This series was created by Jonathan David Carroll, the youngest child of the Carroll family, in the summer of 2009. Defining Normal is currently preparing for the third season, which will premiere this summer 2011, and episodes are posted weekly onto Facebook and YouTube.
This all began with a passion possessed by Jonathan David Carroll: filmmaking. Jonathan David has been creating short videos ever since he was a child and could pick up a video camera. Past projects include the DIE series (DIE, DIE 2, and DI3), which never became popular, and various short films put together with friends and his family. Things started to get serious when Jonathan David enrolled in a technology school his junior year of high school to learn more and build his knowledge and love for media technology. At the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), Jonathan David learned several new skills, relevant to filmmaking, but mastered the post-production of editing.
The idea for Defining Normal was completely random. Jonathan David picked up a camera one night and started filming his family. Once he realized the humor that was brought forth and the "act" his family played while rolling cameras, Jonathan David began with the interviews (talking heads). After a quick post-production editing, just for laughs, the Pilot for Defining Normal was posted onto Facebook and quickly attracted many viewers. The demand for more episodes kept growing and eventually led to a second season with even more episodes (Summer 2010). A lot has changed for the upcoming season three of Defining Normal: The reality show will be filmed in HD (new camera equipment) and will possibly be viewed world-wide! Fans may follow the wacky family on twitter @defining_normal and even join the Facebook group "Defining Normal". All episodes are also displayed on YouTube to attract more external viewers, and with this website developing, Defining Normal will be a huge hit all around the world!
