DeKalb Corn Classic - 10k & 3k Races

Every year in late August, Chicago & Northern Illinois area runners travel to the rural farm town of DeKalb, Illinois for the popular DeKalb Corn Classic (formerly known as DeKalb Corn Fest Races). This running event is comprised of a competitive USATF certified 10k (6.2 mile) race, along with a 3k run/walk option for new runners or those preferring a shorter distance.

Located just off highway I-88, the city of DeKalb is easily accessible from runners & walkers coming from Chicago or the Western Suburbs, as well as other nearby cities including LaSalle & Rockford.

This race happens during the annual DeKalb Corn Fest, a popular festival that centers around the abundance of the corn harvest.

What began as a 10k in 1981 has grown to also include the 3k & Diaper Derby / Toddler Trot making it a unique event where the entire family can participate. It has also become popular with local running clubs, making its way onto their running circuits.

The DeKalb Corn Classic is a well-known and respected race which draws repeat runners year after year due to great volunteers, fantastic t-shirts, ample water & support and an all around fun race. The race starts at the old DeKalb High School (soon to be converted into the middle school) which graciously opens its doors to runners and their families for access to restrooms & showers. It has become tradition for many runners to race in the morning, and then head on over to the Corn Fest (now being held at the airport) for an afternoon of fun with friends & family. This is a great event to add to your fall race calendar.

In 2011, the race will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary and will be held on August 27, 2011. Register Online for the 2011 Corn Classic
