Title

DC Energy Office

Description

On April 4, 1981, the DC Energy Office was established to advise the Mayor on current and pending energy problems and to serve as the lead agency to develop and implement the District’s response to those problems. Our goal is to ensure an adequate, reliable and continuous supply of energy, thus maximizing the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the District of Columbia and to sustain the growth of the District’s economy.

The DC Energy Office (DCEO) was established under the Office of Energy Act of 1980, DC Law 3-132. Administratively, the DCEO falls under the Department of Public Works (DPW).

The DCEO functions as a one-stop energy shop for its customers, the residents of the District of Columbia. We (1) provide energy efficient support for all end-use sectors (residential, commercial, governmental, institutional and transportation); (2) offer energy efficiency education and promotional activities for its customers; (3) intervene for energy efficiency in utility regulatory and legislative proceedings before the District’s Public Service Commission and City Council; and (4) provide help to low-income customers in paying for the cost of energy consumed.
