fnt (fascinating new thing)
Description
The embedded player on MySpace includes a fake meter that supposedly shows the levels for the currently playing song. Lame. It's just a stupid animated image that loops. Look close -- it doesn't match the beat, or more importantly the pitch.
For a fine example, check out these new tracks from BNL. They're doing a promo where they give you the separate vocal, drum, keyboard and guitar tracks and welcome you to create your own mix/mashup. Cool concept, and you can buy the expanded 24-track version for fancier mixing and submission to their contest where your track might end up on EP w/ the best tracks (as judged by the band) sold for charity.
Christina Aguilera's website's sample player has a real sound level meter. You'll have to listen to her new song (I actually dig it), but if you watch closely, you'll see the left-most bar pulse with the bass drum, and the rest of the bars actually move with the beats and match the pitch of the music.
