Description
Barbara Romero (dancer and co-director) founded Danzas Españolas with Isabel Soler in 1998. She has studied and performed a variety of Spanish dance forms such as flamenco, escuela bolera, neoclassical and jota. She has trained both in the U.S. and Spain with teachers such as Ciro, Fernando Romero, Alejandro Granados, Mariano Parra, José Molina, Orlando Romero and Jerane Michel. Ms. Romero toured and choreographed with the Boston Flamenco Ballet for six seasons, performed and taught with Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Arts and was the featured dancer for three years at Meson Asturias in addition to appearing with Romería Flamenca and at numerous tablaos. She has appeared at the off-Broadway Theatre East and as a flamenco dancer on the CD of "Z" The Masked Musical. She has also studied ballet, modern, character, folk and Middle-Eastern dance.
Isabel Soler (dancer and co-director) founded Danzas Españolas with Barbara Romero in 1998. She studied flamenco, escuela bolera and neo-classical dance in NYC and in Spain with Antonio del Castillo, Mariano Parra, José Molina, Carmela Greco, Alejandro Granados and Jerane Michel. She studied ballet at the Joffrey Ballet and Washington Ballet Schools, jazz dance with Miguel Godreau and modern dance with Sabatino Verlezza with whom she has performed. Ms. Soler studies Indian Kathak dance with Najma Ayashah and studied Doumbek with Amir Naoum. She has performed with Romería Flamenca, Carlota Santana Spanish Dance Arts and at various tablaos in NY and NJ. Ms. Soler has appeared at off-Broadway's Theatre East and as a flamenco dancer on the CD, "Z" The Masked Musical.
Natalia Brillante (dancer) has trained in Escuela Bolera, neo-classical and flamenco with teachers such as José Molina, Mariano Parra and Jerane Michel. She apprenticed with The American Bolero Dance Company for two years and then was invited to dance with Danzas Españolas . While pursuing a B.A. in foreign languages at Hunter College, Ms. Brillante studied and performed with the Martha Graham Co., with several Isadora Duncan based companies and also trained in ballet. She performed Spanish dance with Danzas Españolas, Ballet Fiesta Mexicana Ybarra, Cuadro Romería Flamenca and is currently performing off-Broadway with Carmen "La Sala" in "Flamenco Extravaganza". She has taught children's classes at Ballet Academy East and for Discovery Programs NYC. She currently teaches and administrates at her own school and children's performing group, American Youth Dance Theater.
