History
Cummins was founded way back in 1919 as Cummins Engine Company by Mr. Clessie Cummins, a self-taught mechanic and inventor. J. Irwin Miller a local banker assisted the company to make a mark in the market. Since then despite of the ups and downs going through the market of diesel engines, the company survived and came out good at the end. Nourished by the innovation, persistence and commitment to community Cummins is going stronger at its services day by day, thanks to their technology. At the point the company is headed by Mr. Theodore "Tim" Solso, Chairman and CEO whose leadership has brought it to the spotlight.
Eventually Cummins emerged as a family of four inter-linked, yet versatile businesses, Engine Business, Power Generation Business, Components Business, and the Distribution Business, which share common distribution systems, such as power generation and engines, as well as technology. Cummins is not just US based and facts reveal that about 51% of the revenue is generated from outside US which includes developing countries.
Production
Cummins Engine Business are the producers and suppliers of a complete line of diesel and natural gas-powered engines both on-highway and off-highway use. Cummins Power Generation Business is a global service provider of power generation systems, components and services in standby power, distributed power generation, which was formed by purchasing Fridley, MN based Onan in the 1990s to gain entry into power generation, an industry which relies heavily upon diesel engines, formed by taking over Fleet guard, which is still a brand name for the company. Cummins Power Generation products include diesel and alternative-fueled electrical generator sets form 2.5 to 2,700 kW, alternators from 0.6 KVA to 30,000 KVA. The Components Business Segment consists of four businesses Cummins Filtration, manufactures and distributes heavy-duty air, fuel, hydraulic and lube filtration, chemicals and exhaust system technology products for diesel and gas-powered equipment, Cummins Turbo Technologies, designs and manufactures turbochargers and related products, on a global scale, for diesel engines above 3 liters, Cummins Emission Solutions, develops and supplies catalytic exhaust systems and related products to the medium-and heavy-duty commercial diesel engine markets and Cummins Fuel Systems, designs, develops and manufactures new fuel systems and remanufactures electronic control modules in the United States.
