The main attraction to Nootka is the world class salmon fishing in calm water. From June to October salmon are returning to three main rivers in Nootka. Other salmon are also stopping to feed in Nootka on their journey to more southern rivers. Fishermen have the option of fishing the calm inside waters of the Sound or the open Pacific at the entrance to the Sound and beyond. Nootka is famous for big Chinook, commonly 25 to 40 pounds and sometimes even above 60 pounds.
