Liberation Summer Project comes out of the Black neighborhood of East Nashville, where long-time residents are being priced out of their homes and young Black men are being systematically targeted by police. With radical humor, music and satire, Liberation Summer organizers will entertain while making connections between local struggles for racial justice. We will be screening the new documentary by East Nashville resident Gregory King, "Tales from the Street: Homeless People Speak about their Lives & the Police". There will be Q&A with the director after the film. We will also be screening a new documentary produced by Critical Resistance, "I Won't Drown On That Levee and You Ain't Gonna Break My Back," about the conditions of prisoners living in New Orleans post-Katrina, and about Critical Resistance's ongoing campaign to shut down Orleans Parish Prison. Join us for a night of film and engaging performance as we spotlight the problems of police brutality, racial profiling, gentrification and the prison industrial complex. Free admission, donations gladly accepted. All proceeds benefit the East Nashville Community Group. Sponsored by Critical Moment.
