Senator Deeds was appointed in 2006 to the Secure Commonwealth Panel, the State Water Commission, and the Virginia Sesquicentennial for the American Civil War Commission. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Land Conservation Foundation, the Board of Trustees of the Frontier Culture Museum, and the Western Virginia Public Education Consortium. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Virginia Area Health Education Center and the Virginia Law-Related Education Advisory Board.

Senator Deeds attended Virginia’s public schools and graduated from Bath County High School in 1976. After completing undergraduate work at Concord College, he received his law degree from Wake Forest University in 1984. Currently he is an attorney in private practice.
