ABOUT CREEPY CANADA - THE NEW FORMAT
We have been receiving quite a bit of mail regarding our format change, in short the inclusion of United States segments in our show called “Creepy Canada”. Some people have even accused us of selling out Canada by including these foreign interlopers, but this is entirely untrue.
The change occurred because fans have always expressed an interest in visiting the locations included in the series, as well as wanting to see fresh new stories. In response to this we have included United States segments that are often geographically closer to Canadians than many actual Canadian locations. The team that shot the United States segments never climbed on an airplane to travel, opting, rather, for an oversized (and very uncomfortable) van, so we never got to far from the border. Stories were chosen based on being close enough for many Canadians to visit quite easily. One look at the map will show just how close upstate New York, Maryland and Virginia really are, at least to Ontario and Quebec. Next season we’ll try to visit Montana and North Dakota for all you viewers in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and if that’s not taking a bullet for the show I don’t know what is. As for viewers in Newfoundland and Labrador, we will continue to go to you, since you aren’t close to anything.
The other factor was that a huge percentage of Canadians who travel, do not do so within Canada; in fact seventy percent of Canadian vacations on the North American Continent are to the United States. Don’t blame us… it’s an actual tourism fact. Truth be told, to cover Canadians’ most popular vacation spot we would have to produce Haunted Havana, which considering the last winter in Ontario doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
