What is ConservativeX?
When I was younger I always resisted labeling myself as Conservative. As far as I was concerned, Conservatives were middle-aged, middle-class white guys. Not exactly the image of "hip". I also thought that the term "conservative" was a dirty word. I thought of myself as trendy, unique, and forward thinking...not "conservative" by any means. Eight years of Bill Clinton made the less hip Conservatives appear more and more attractive to me. Finally, I had to come out and just say it, "I am a Conservative".
Much has happened in our world over the course of the past couple of years. I've spent a lot of time exploring what being a Conservative means to me personally. I've repeatedly asked myself, "Where do I fit in?". I am against the Liberal agenda but I support a woman's right to chose. I am for drilling in Alaska but I have issues with organized religion. Having these crucial differences in ideology, how do I fit in with the Conservative Party?
I found out that I am not alone. The fact is that there are many young Conservatives that do not fit the mold. I personally know many people that consider themselves Conservatives but have beliefs and values outside the realm of what the media portrays as Conservatism. That is truly what this site is all about. Showing the many faces that exist within Conservatism and what those viewpoints are. There is a wide range of Conservatives out there that are not being seen or heard in the media. This is primarily because the mainstream media has its own agenda but also maybe because we are not shouting loud enough to be heard above the din. (Conservatives aren't well known for their picketing efforts).
