In the early 1960’s, the original owners of Conklin Equipment were rebuilders of brake shoes selling into the Southern California area. Because there was a lack of quality equipment available for the production brake shoe rebuilder, they started building machines for their own use. In 1966 the brake rebuilding portion of the business was sold and Conklin Equipment was formed to exclusively build equipment, drawing on the experience they had as a rebuilder.
