History
CompuServe was the top three content providers together with aol.com and prodigy.com. It was a world wide service company, it provided services in Europe, Asia and probably other countries as well. Its own software had French, German versions. When the world wide web was not popular, this company provided its users its own knowledge and data base, it has very extensive information and content. It even had premium service which customers have to pay extra in order to get access to those information. It also sent customers free disks to try its service. Sometimes, it even sent out a big package including some thick books/manuals.
At that time, aol.com was its only competition. And some people did not like the customer service that aol.com provided, so they usually switch to compuserve. In the late 1990's, compuserve was bought by aol.com. Aol.com was smart enough not to convert compuserve's software to aol's software or convert its customer's emails to aol.com. It continued to exist as if it was an indepentdent company.
