American Composers Forum - Los Angeles Chapter: Home

Description

The Los Angeles Chapter is particularly open to the needs of the more immediate Los Angeles community, offering grant opportunities, facilitating the engagement of composers with communities, and helping the various aspects of the new music community find each other in order to form a strong network with mutual benefits. The chapter has been awarded a three-year start up grant from the James Irvine Foundation, and welcomes support from membership dues as well as from local, state and national cultural agencies, corporations and foundations. By partnerships and collaborations the chapter provides a framework for the flourishing and support of creative musical efforts to day.

The past several months have represented a new phase for ACF-LA, as major funding was sharply curtailed due to the current economic situation faced by so many arts organizations. Chapter Director Heidi Lesemann transitioned from her nearly five years as our extraordinary staff person to becoming a board member of ACF-LA, and Halie Rosenberg has been hired as a part-time assistant.

The American Composers Forum is a service organization for composers, performers and presenters of the music in our time. Its mission is linking communities with composers and performers, encouraging the making, playing and enjoyment of new music. Building two-way relationships between artists and publics, the Forum develops programs that educate today’s and tomorrow’s audiences, energize composers’ careers, stimulate entrepreneurship and collaboration, and serve as models of effective support for the arts.
