We are quite simply, those who have obeyed the gospel and been “called out” of sin unto salvation.

The church of Christ which meets in the Bruton Heights Training Center is a group of Christians drawn together by faith in Christ. We are neither Catholic nor Protestant, but simply men and women who have been saved from sin by grace through faith, that is, in obedience to the gospel (Heb 5:9).

Our worship is simple because it is based on the New Testament. Prayers are led by men of the church and congregational singing allows each to make melody in their heart unto the Lord (Eph 5:19). Observance of the Lord’s supper “upon the first day of the week” commemorates the Lord’s death until He comes again (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 11:26).

We do not engage in church sponsored socials or recreational affairs to entertain or raise funds. We do not solicit any money from our visitors. Only our members contribute upon the first day of the week by free will offering (1 Cor. 16:12).

We are an independent congregation with no earthly headquarters of any kind. Christ is the head of the church, and He rules and directs the church through His word (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We simply strive to follow the commands and examples of the church described in the New Testament. We do not follow any human creeds or doctrines which have been created by man to falsely supplement God’s Word. We use the Bible and only the Bible as our guide.

The word church means the “called out ones.” The church is made up of those who have been called out of the world by the gospel unto Christ (2 Thes. 2:13-14). The gospel tells of sin and how it separates us from God. It tells of God’s love for us and how He provided a way for us to be reconciled with Him through the greatest sacrifice in all of history. It gives us the story of hope, found in Jesus Christ, and how God sent Him to save us from our sins. Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies which were foretold of Him in the Old Testament. He lived the perfect life, healing the sick and afflicted, feeding the hungry, caring for the poor and the down trodden, and most importantly, telling mankind what we must do to be reconciled with our Heavenly Father. As a reward for His goodness, this world put Him to death. But the gospel is known as the “good news” of Jesus Christ. For in His death, burial and resurrection, we find hope(1 Cor. 15:1-5). He was the perfect sacrifice, given by God, to free us from all our sins. So this gospel has “called out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9-10) all who will accept it.
