CollegeSmarts started as a business idea in 2001 - the whole concept involved creating a forum where students could buy and sell amongst each other, thus avoiding using the bookstore as an intermediary in the process of buying and selling used textbooks. The idea went through several revisions until it's current version right now (v4.0) The service was originally to be an ASP (application service provider) which would service for a fee universities that were interested in helping their students save money. That wasn't meant to be - Student body management is very fickle and after several attempts at establishing contact and 'get the ball rolling' it became obvious that the 6 month-1 year term elected officials had other things in mind besides helping students through the process of buying and selling textbooks.
Nowadays, CollegeSmarts sustains itself by partnering with major online bookstores by receiving a small commission when a user clicks through our site and buys books from merchants like Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble or Ecampus.
