Description

Shelter Cove is a beautiful seaside community amidst the Kings Range National Conservation Area. Found approximately 230 miles north of San Francisco and 70 miles south of Eureka this coastline is among the most rugged part of the California coast. This area, also known as California's "Lost Coast" because it has no access from Highway 1, but is only about 30 miles up the coast from Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Access to Shelter Cove is found off Highway 101 about 25 miles west towards the coast. You can drive here or fly into Shelter Cove's 3600ft paved airstrip.

Shelter Cove and the Kings Range offer an abundant and rich natural resource on both land and at sea. Because of Shelter Cove's somewhat remote location you can avoid crowds while enjoying all of the abundant fishing and wildlife opportunities. Saltwater fishing for salmon, rockfish, halibut, albacore tuna, lingcod, crab, and abalone is a popular activity in Shelter Cove because it is one of the few protected harbors on the north coast.

Shelter Cove is a gem that holds beautiful vistas of sheer cliffs plunging into the oceans depths. Cool upwellings of nutrient dense waters arise from these deep underwater canyons allowing for a great myriad of life to thrive in these waters. For example last season, the average size salmon caught was over the 20 lb range with many 30-40 lbs fish being landed. The largest being 57 pounds!! Now that's fishing!!
