REVIEW OF COCONUT DIET
You’ve heard of the Grapefruit Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, and even the Lemonade Diet, but the Coconut Diet is likely to strike some individuals as a bit surprising. Contrary to what its name seems to suggest, this plan does not require dieters to eat nothing but coconuts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. According to the plan’s website, native peoples in the tropics consume quite a bit of saturated fat, and yet their bodies remain slim and their cholesterol levels remain in control. Researchers believe that the answer may be locked inside the hard shell of the coconut. The oil of the coconut contains medium chain fatty acids, which, unlike long chain fatty acids, tend to be burned for energy rather than stored as fat. In addition to raising the metabolism, proponents claim that coconut oil may also help to destroy harmful bacteria and viruses. The Coconut Diet website asserts that incorporating coconut oil into one’s diet is surprisingly simple. It can be used to prepare any number of dishes, or even taken on its own.
