The Clearwater Hat Company is owned and operated by Bob and Kay Burton. Our shop is located in a beautiful valley in the Ozark Mountains about eleven miles west of Mountain View (north central), Arkansas.
The company was originally started in 1988 by Vaughn R. Brewer and his wife Kay. Vaughn had been interested in folklore, muzzleloading, archeology, living history, photography, politics, and storytelling for a number of years.
In the late 1980's Vaughn and Kay were the recipients of several grants from the National Endowment of the Arts to collect folklore in and around Stone County, Arkansas. The result was an extraordinary collection of photographs and oral interpretations unique to the Ozark mountains.
