Clarkcreek Golden Retrievers

Description

We have spent 25 years in the company of all kinds of dogs. But no breed ever completely dominated the household until we took in that first Golden Retriever. What we do here at Clarkcreek is strive to produce healthy, happy puppies who can perform in the show ring, at obedience, agility and field trials, and especially in your home. We believe a Golden Retriever should be a multi-purpose dog; able to hunt over water, excel in obedience or agility competition and look good around the conformation ring. We select stud dogs and breeding stock whose pedigree and personalities reflect these qualities. We take the job of raising puppies VERY seriously, and it is an avocation at which we excel. Our priority is producing structurally sound dogs with wonderful temperaments. That's why we chose Golden Retrievers in the first place! All of our show/breeding stock here at Clarkcreek are OFA cleared for hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia, CERF cleared for eye anomalies and SAS cleared by a cardiologist for heart abnormalities. We also do thyroid screening. We offer a written health/temperament guarantee and contract with each puppy or dog we place. All puppies are wormed, vaccinate and microchipped before leaving our property. We work very hard to place our pups in the right homes. If we don't feel comfy with a particular home, then our pup goes somewhere else. We believe that in the long run both owner and puppy are best served when we stick to this philosophy. That is why you will find a "Approved Homes Only" clause in our contract.

Our pups are raised in our home, in one of the whelping rooms/areas we have set up. One is a spare bedroom or den on the first floor and it is currently our 22 yr old son's bedroom. It is close to the activity of the house by being just off the laundry/bathroom, but but out of the way when needs dictate. The pups have full time supervision when Travis is home because he lives in his room. Tv, internet, stereo and phone are all he apparently needs to survive. Well, if we would put a microwave and frig in there he might never come out. The other is on the second floor of our home, it is a spare bedroom our daughter uses for her massage therapy work. We try to have one litter at a time, but there are times when two girls need to be bred almost simultaneously. These two rooms work well for those times. We sleep on the floor alongside each girls whelping box for the first 14 days after birth. We never leave a litter of pups alone with a mother, even a seasoned mother, until they are two weeks of age and able to move about on their own and settle without mom's constant presence. We handle each pup from the day they are born. All of our puppies are born via C-section at Animal Clinic Northview in Northridgeville, Ohio. We plan our breedings very carefully and with exact progesterone testing we can feel safe in knowing when a litter is due. Once a bitch goes into labor we call over to the clinic and let them know we are coming and the surgery goes off without a hitch. We have never lost a pup or a mother this way. Much safer, much easier on both mother and puppies.

During the past 25 years we have participated in numerous activities with our dogs. We are currently active in AKC conformation events. Most weekends of the year you will find us at a dog show somewhere in the US. We are members of the Cuyahoga Valley Golden Retriever Club and we are also members of the Golden Retriever Club of America We encourage all dog and puppy owners to pursue some outside activity with their dog. Life is stressful and you and the dog will be healthier if you find something you both love to do!
