- In 1978, John W. Huelskamp, our founder/historian, purchased his first Civil War collectable firearm, a COLT M1851 Navy, while on a vacation trip to historic Connecticut. After arriving home, he disassembled the piece with great care noticing a small scrap of paper with a beautifully scripted signature tucked away between the backstrap and the walnut grip.
