Port Hueneme church of Christ
We are a non-denominational church, and dedicated to the studies of Christ in the New Testament. Our work, worship and edification are Bible centered.
Our goal is to determine from the New Testament what the church is supposed to be and do according to the plan God laid down. We try to follow the pattern we observe the church practicing in the first century. We are independent of all other congregations. Our rule of conduct is directed from heaven and not any ecclesiastical organization.
You will find at the church of Christ in Port Hueneme a diverse group, coming from varied backgrounds, and at different stages of knowledge and spiritual growth, but who strive to love God and one another.
We are located in Port Hueneme (a few blocks from the beach), approximently 60 miles north of Los Angeles, in Ventura County, California. Since we are very close to the CBC Navy base and near the Point Mugu Navy base, we are blessed to have as visitors many who are serving our country. Some of these visits last for three months.
Our website is more than a contact page. You can read articles, read sermon outlines, or listen to sermons on mp3 audio. We also list links to a few study resources.Check it out today. Even better, stop in when you are in town.
Additional Information
The Church is the body of Christ. Of importance are the members, not the building, so ours is modest; there is no steeple, no large cross on the roof, nor any stained glass. There are also no musical instruments, as we were only told to make sing and make melody in our hearts. Our pastors are called elders, since they shepherd and guard the flock; and the one who does most of the preaching is called a preacher or evangelilst instead of a pastor. Other members preach occasionally, and we bring in guest preachers a few times a year.
The names and practices may seem unusual to some, but the example we follow is from the Bible. We only follow the New Testament pattern of the first Church, which Christ "built" and to which God adds us as members.
Trivia
If you can call it trivial... One online directory reported in September 2007 that they have listings for 13,838 churches of Christ in the US and 40,156 worldwide. These totals do not include churches in locations where government leaders say they may persecute Christians. The totals also do not include churches that use musical instruments, churches whose names are not found in the New Testament, nor churches that have not been submitted.
There are churches that go by other names but do follow the pattern laid down in the New Testament. Whatever the name, we're just Christians.
Some churches have "Church of Christ" in their name but do not follow the pattern laid down in the New Testament. It is best to read a church's website, email them, or call them to be sure that they do fit your needs.
