Description
London Air Services helicopter pilots Dylan Thomas and Rupert Kaile have begun a high altitude mountain operations refresher program at Chinook in anticipation of the delivery of the first of their two Agusta AB139's in March 2006. Both high time IFR offshore pilots have had extensive mountain training in the past but the welcome refresher training with the Chinook staff will reaffirm their mountain skills as they prepare for working with their own customer base in the rugged terrain near Campbell River.
An interesting industry switch took place recently when Chinook Flight Instructor Ken Birss took over the chief pilot position at Highland Helicopters and Keith "KO" Ostertag the semi retired former chief pilot began offering his services at Chinook. "KO" is currently the only Authorized Check Pilot in western Canada able to offer PPC (Pilot Proficiency Check) rides to all helicopter pilots. Pilots needing to renew their PPC status can book a ride with "KO" on Chinook's Bell 206B.
CHC helicopter pilots Thanarat Boonmeemeechai and Witcha Chupanya have recently returned to their native Thailand after an extensive recurrent training program in mountain operations and instrument flying at Chinook.
