Comprised of four enterprising young women, this company was founded in 2001 to create & manage the Chicago Kings. Now almost 5 years and almost 200 shows later, they are even more dedicated to producing quality gender-bending entertainment. Within the forum of performance-based events, their goal is to help create a positive community that celebrates diversity in gender expression, sexualities, and cultures. All walks of life are welcome and encouraged to come experience it for themselves!
A potent combination of ingenuity, ambition and a few bloody mary's helped found the Chicago Kings in February 2001. Frustrated with the lack of an ongoing dyke social scene in Chicago, the daring gender-benders pictured above decided to do something about it. Over the following month, Pussy Galore, Maxx Hollywood, Mr. Izzie Big, and Harley Poker busied themselves with building a set and stage, launching a website, making drag appearances, papering the city with flyers and posters...and oh yeah, finding a few good men! Only 7 acts were confirmed for the first show on March 31 at Jak's Tap, and out of the 11 kings performing that night, only one had ever done drag-kinging before. But the real question was, "Will anyone would actually come to the show?"
Forty five minutes before the doors opened the night of the show, there was a line of people out the door and around the corner waiting to get in. Women and men, trannies and drag queens, queer and straight folks packed the bar beyond the performers wildest dreams. Despite some serious sound issues and 3 inches of muck on the floor, everyone crowded around the home-made stage, cheering with unbridled excitement and anticipation. Technical difficulties notwithstanding, the show, which included several impromptu acts by eager audience members, went off without a hitch. Oozing charm and raw talent, the bois quickly won over the crowd and left them screaming for more.
