January 6, 2006 - The National Cherry Festival will kick off its 80th annual celebration with a highly anticipated repeat performance by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2 over West Grand Traverse Bay.
The return of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels to the National Cherry Festival guarantees a fast-paced high performance show over West Grand Traverse Bay. The Blue Angels flight team demonstrates the choreographed refinements of Navy-trained flying skills while exhibiting the graceful, aerobatic maneuvers of the four-plane diamond, opposing solos, and the six plane delta formation.
Traverse City will prepare for "circle and arrival" maneuvers on Thursday, June 29, with official U.S. Navy Blue Angels shows during the Festival Airshow Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, July 2. The Festival Airshow is expected to get underway at 12:30 p.m. each day.
