In July of 2000, in response to a request from the Yunnan Department of Justice in Kunming, Peoples Republic of China, Robin Fairbairn made his first trip to China.
Fairbairn, a graduate of the UCLA School of Law, had been practicing in California since 1963. One of his clients was engaged in the veneer business in Kunming. The Chinese Government asked that client if he knew of any American attorneys that would be able to advise the Yunnan Government relative to China’s impending entry into the World Trade Organization.
Once in Kunming, the home of the Flying Tigers in World War II and the terminus of the famous Burma Road, Fairbairn and his son, Adam, also an attorney, set up an office in the building housing the Yunnan Department of Justice.
