Chemifloc was founded in 1981 and began manufacturing Mannich type Polyelectrolyte, used for dewatering wastewater sludge, in 1982. Also in that year it became the agent for SNF Floerger, a manufacturer of a wide range of Polyelectrolytes for a variety of water and industrial applications.
In 1983 Chemifloc, because of its wide ranging technical abilities in the water and wastewater field was appointed the Irish Agent For E&A West, of Derby, the leading producer of Ferric Sulphate. This relationship developed and in 1985 West and Chemifloc established an Aluminium Sulphate production facility, Uisce Glan Teo, in Spiddal, Galway. By this stage Chemifloc was supplying a wide range of chemicals to the water industry: Alum; Ferric Sulphate; Polyelectrolytes; Activated Carbon; Soda Ash etc. The company also began developing Novel Coagulants based on Alum: Chemifloc 101 an Alum – Ferric blend and Chemifloc 103 an Acid – Alum blend. These products gave enhanced performance in certain potable water applications.
