Description
George Hirsch has always had a passion for adventure. His adventures began at the age of five on family campouts. Little did he know his curriosities and coupled with his zest for exploration would become more than a pastime; it would be the beginning of an adventurous way of enjoying life. George was introduced to the art of cooking from his mother and Italian grandmother, which would eventually lead him to pursue a world-renowned career in the culinary field. From his parents he learned the importance of sharing his talents; which is why George passionately shares his food creations with a worldwide audience through his years as a professional chef and television personality. George has dedicated himself to a well lived lifestyle; encompassing his philosophies thoughout all avenues in his life. As a black belt in Karate, George has discovered how rewarding physical activitie can be--no matter how strenuous. As George says at the close of his television programs: "If I can do it, YOU can do it!" as he empowers his audience to go ahead, and try it.
As a Chef, George has reached tremendous acclaim. He is a graduate with high honors from the Culinary Institute of America, a Certified Executive Chef and a Culinary Educator. The American Culinary Federation inducted him into the Academy of Chefs, the most prestigious honor society of chefs in the United States. He was the Culinary Director and developed the Culinary Arts Center at New York Institute of Technology, a fully accredited college-level culinary school. One of his most rewarding experiences is being co-founder and chairperson emeritus of the Chef and Child Foundation, a national program with over 20,000 American chefs dedicated to fighting hunger and emphasizing nutrition among the young. George Hirsch serves on the Board of Directors of the Congressional Hunger Center in Washington, D.C. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors including the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American Culinary Federation.
George is the Executive Producer and Host of his national lifestyle television series. In fall 2005 George Hirsch Living it UP! released in national syndication. The nationally syndicated series highlights food, travel and recreation from the perspective of George's well lived lifestyle. His previous PBS series include Grilling with Chef George Hirsch, George Hirsch's Know Your Fire, George Hirsch for Better Living & Lifestyles series and GEORGE HIRSCH Living it Up!
