Title

Chattanooga Boys Choir

Description

Placement in the Chattanooga Boys Choir is typically gained after an audition in the spring of a boy’s second grade year which takes place at the CBC offices or a number of area schools and churches. Boys are also invited to audition after this time, but advanced placement in choirs. (NOTE: Click on pictures to enlarge)

Those accepting an invitation to join begin with the organization in the fall of their third grade year in the Mozart Choir. Immediately, the boys begin a curriculum of music performance, history, and appreciation. Beginners are acquainted with basic musical terms, choral techniques, melody, rhythm, and the discovery of head tone. This entry level provides a sense of belonging as boys learn about CBC standards, customs, and requirements, and become familiar with the staff, faculty, and other boys.

Demonstrated success and achievement in the beginning year usually leads to promotion into the Schubert Choir. In this ensemble, sight-singing, 2-part repertoire, and ear-training are introduced and more extensively used. Basic music theory skills are taught and assessed through the use of music software in our Computer Lab.
