Central Music Agency was set up by myself, Karen Blackwood BA RSAMD PGCE in March of 2005 as I felt that especially brides and grooms to be were being charged the wedding tax as I call it for musicians. As soon as you mention the word wedding to a lot of bands they just see the dollar signs and put the cost up. My husband Stuart has played in bands for 20 years and works with 2 covers bands (Heskey and Sound Cradle) and the Kippen ceilidh band who are all very experienced musicians. Most of the band members are music teachers during the day and performers in the evening.
My husband really got into wedding gigs by mistake. Friends of the family and audience members at pub gigs were always asking Stuart to play for their weddings or parties. Most people loved the lively atmosphere and the variety in the set. Stuart is also a massive Beatles fan and plays in a tribute band called "The Beatles For Sale."
On a more personal note I am also a music teacher at Crieff High School on a part-time basis as I have recently had 3 babies under two and a half. Working from home was the best solution to spending more time with the boys. Most of the agency work is through the internet which allows me to work in the evenings when the boys are sleeping. Believe it or not I do get a break sometimes.
