Native American Flutes by Laughing Crow Flutes

Description

Richard Maynard or Laughing Crow began making Native American flutes back around 1995. I was inspired by the haunting sounds of the flute that hearken back to my life as a young boy in an East Texas sawmill town. Like so many others, this music reaches into my core and brings forth feelings of Joy and a connectedness with Spirit. I really can't explain it, but it just speaks to the depths of my being. I think that I am not alone with these feelings as thousands are joining myself and others on the flute path every year.

The Native American Love Flute is an instrument that is so totally easy to play by anyone and lends itself to improvisation with the minor pentatonic scale, or "Native American scale", that one can sit an noodle for hours and make beautiful sounds without having any prior musical experience or skills. Yes, having talent and experience will make a difference, but speaking for myself as an utter failure with the piano, guitar, saxophone, banjo, flutophone, you name it, the Love Flute has opened the door to musical performance for myself as well as for so many who have taken up the Indian Flute.

I make these flutes with love and care and with the intention that they will carry on long after I'm gone leaving a beautiful legacy in the name of "Laughing Crow" Every time I make a flute or a batch of flutes, I'm looking for the way to consistently hit that "sweet spot" that really is the Magic of this instrument.

Not only do I love to make Native American flutes and purvey them to music lovers around the world, my heart is happy creating music with these enchanting Native Flutes. So far, as of this writing in early 2008, I have 9 albums completed and am putting myself in a position up near Taos, NM to open up to more inspiration to create the soothing sounds that appeal to almost everyone.

The Native American Flute has opened up a whole new world of opportunities to those of us who take it up and understand that our creativity can be unlimited in avenues once closed off or unimagined in the world of music. I can say that in our flute circle alone, the Tucson Native American Flute Circle, everyone who has acquired a flute and has had the courage to join in and participate has improved beyond their wildest dreams. With encouragement and inspiration, new talents that have lain hidden within our members have blossomed. I, personally, feel that this is one of the beautiful aspects of the Love Flute, to bring out the creative side within the players as well as the ability to share the sweet, haunting tones with everyone.

If you think you're interested in making your own "beautiful noise" I invite you to come along and join the happy "fluties" who have found the Pleasure and Joy that playing this instrument brings.

Enhance your life's journey with the soothing sounds of a Native American Style Flute or Native inspired music on CD from Laughing Crow Flutes.

My goal is to create flutes that are not only beautiful to look at, but rewarding to play and hear. Each Plains style flute is individually crafted and tuned to provide the best tone quality. I have included samples of each flute so that you may judge for yourself. The answer to my most frequently asked question.

How did I get started on the flute path?, people ask. When I was a small boy, my hometown in the Piney Woods of East Texas had a large lumber mill and our house was close by. Every morning at 5:15am a series of whistles would blow to wake up the mill workers. Whoever blew these whistles would play the most haunting melody which seemed to last for an eternity. I used to try with all my might to sleep through this concert as it would frighten me, as a young boy, to hear the eerie harmonies that floated through the surrounding town and forests.
