"Cars and Coffee" originated in Atlanta, Georgia in May of 2001. The very first Cars And Coffee show took place in the parking lot of a Roswell, Georgia Coffee House. As it was the first of its kind it was also the first to begin early in the morning as many shows would begin late morning and run through the day or begin as an evening cruise-in after 6 pm.
Many Atlanta car enthusiasts would come very early just to get the best parking space and arrive as early as 6 am to park and warm up on a cool Georgia morning with a hot cup of coffee. As the event grew it drew a variety of car enthusiasts that included sports cars, muscle cars and vintage cars. It was not unusual to see a Z28 Camaro parked next to a Cord or Duesenberg in the midst of Ferrari's, Lotus Espirit's, Jaguars and MG's.
