In 1998, friends Bob Plante and Bob Watson recognized the need for a gathering spot for all members of the community: a place to meet, converse, get a quick bite to eat, and catch up on the news. Capitol Grounds Café and Roastery opened on November 12, 1998, in the converted Chittenden Bank Building on the corner of State and Elm Streets in the heart of Montpelier.
