Camp Bob Marshall

Description

Camp Bob Marshall is located in the heart of the beautiful Black Hills, six miles east of Custer on the northeast shore of Bismarck Lake. Bob Marshall is on the west side of Custer State Park and close to Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, Harney Peak, Sylvan Lake, the Needles, Crazy Horse Monument, and Jewel Cave and Wind Cave National Parks. The 78-acre site is operated by the Western Dakota 4-H Camp Association.

Camp Bob Marshall hosts 4-H youth and their leaders with three-day sessions each week in June, after which other youth and adult groups may rent the facilities for conference and camping programs from May through November. Bob Marshall hosts the South Dakota Wildlife Federation youth camp annually during the first week of June, and is available for church conferences, and other youth and adult camps in July and August. Facilities are available on weekends in June, July and August for special youth retreats and family reunions, but priority is given to youth groups. The camp is usually available anytime in September through November for groups to rent.

The 4-H camping program at Bob Marshall is intended to provide an opportunity for youth to make new friends, learn to get along with others, understand and appreciate nature, and have fun. Trout fishing, boating and swimming on Bismarck Lake, and hiking are key recreational activities. Horseback riding is available four miles away at Bluebell Lodge and additional trout fishing is available at Stockade Lake, Legion Lake, Center Lake, Sylvan Lake, and other Black Hills lakes and streams. Equipment is provided for volleyball, Softball, basketball, tetherball, horseshoes and canoeing. Bob Marshall’s setting, the picturesque ponderosa pine forest of the southern Black Hills intermingled with aspen and spruce, is an ideal area for bird watching, nature and rock studies.
