Description

The Choir is noted for having presented many rarely performed works, including the British premiere of Leopold Mozart's Missa Solemnis, as well as works by modern British composers such as Peter Maxwell Davies, Michael Nyman and David Fanshawe.

In 1986, the Choir performed the world première of The Bright Heavens Sounding by Iain Hamilton. It also performed the world première of a carol by David Fanshawe, dedicated to the Choir. In June 1992, it performed the world première of Cantata for St. Cecelia by John Gardner, commissioned in honour of the Choir’s 20th birthday. The Choir also commissioned The Word from Elena Firsova for its 25th Jubilee Season – it was performed in the Barbican Hall in June 1997.

Last season, the Choir performed works including Monteverdi’s Messa da Capella ( 1640), motets by Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Gluck’s De Profundis, Haydn’s Little Organ Mass and Edward Elgar’s The Apostles (in conjunction with the Ware Choral Society).
