Description
Calvary Chapel Monterey Bay was founded by Pastor Bill Holdridge. Bill and his wife Karin moved to Central California from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in southern California in 1978. When he came to the Monterey Peninsula, Bill had no job and virtually no money but he knew that this was God's leading. After a year of teaching home bible studies, he was asked to pastor a new Calvary Chapel by believers who had formerly been part of the Shiloh Fellowship.
The church body was very mobile and met in several different cities during its first few years until it finally stabilized when it began meeting at a local movie theater. Even though we were grateful to be able to use this facility for 8 years, we realized during that time that we needed to pursue a more permanent solution. Three years into our stay at the theater we started our journey into building a church facility. This journey took us five years to complete and by God's grace we were able to move into this new facility in the summer of 1996. Subsequently, we have added a Student Ministries building and recently purchased an adjacent 5.6 acres, which we are currently developing. Currently, Nate Holdridge serves as Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Monterey Bay.
What We Believe About Worship
Worship of God should be according to truth. Therefore, we view God's Word, the Bible, as being our final authority for faith and practice.
