CALDER.NET was registered by Bruce Calder in 1996 and has been used as a hobby/sideline since then to house his three mailing lists, Joke of the Day, The Daily Info, and This Day In History.

After the internet crash in 2000-2001, CALDER.NET and the associated mailing lists were not as actively maintained while Calder.Net was revamped. In July of 2003, The Calder Gazette was born as a centre (center) for opinion and in addition to Bruce, contributing columnists were (and still are) attracted to write articles in order to provide a large body of original content from various viewpoints.

On November 11, 2003, GetSwap was launched as part of the Calder.Network. GetSwap is a free service allowing the publishers of internet mailing lists, or "e-zines" to help each other build their readership.
