Title

Community Associations of Peterborough (CAP)

Description

Mission Statement:

To act in an advisory capacity and provide support, information and give representation to and on behalf of Member Associations. To enable all Associations to make informed decisions on issues relating to their work with the community. To establish and fulfill strong links with all Statutory and Non-statutory bodies by participating in the development of any policy making which affects the members.

In September 2002 CAP successfully bid to Community Matters' Millennium Volunteers fund for money to employ a Project Worker to deliver their own Millennium Volunteers programme, over an 18 month period. The aim was to recruit and support 42 volunteers aged between 16 and 24 years to give up to 200 hours of their own time for community benefit. The project actually saw 44 young people volunteering their time in a variety of placements which included: youth work, peer support, working with children, and assisting the project co-ordinator.

One of the aims of the project was to recruit some Millennium Volunteers to train in web design and to use their training to produce a web site for CAP which would give all their affiliated Community Centres and Village Halls a place to promote their buildings and activities to a wide audience. With money from the National Lottery's Awards for All fund to pay for the Volunteers to have professional training, and to gather information and photographs from the Centres and Halls, this site is the culmination of that aim. We hope you enjoy it and that it is of use to the people of Peterborough.
