Founding members Nora Lee Wendland and Raye Virginia Allen envisioned a place where local denizens could create visual and performing arts, and see touring professionals who would give them "something to copy." The year was 1957. Schools were emphasizing science and math as key to our nation’s future. The CAC began as an arts council with the goal of linking cultural arts to education.
