- The Watson family has business roots dating back to the 1920's in Saginaw. Richard T. Watson (and his young family, including Burt) began to distribute milk during the depression. The business evolved into one of producing ice cream. They operated a popular soda fountain, which was common in those days. They eventually became one of the largest producers of ice cream in out state Michigan. After World War Two, they added the possible franchise to their business, and produced and delivered all the "Frozen Novelties" consumed in all of northern Michigan (from Flint north).
