BURRENBEO TEAM
The concept of burrenbeo emerged in early 2002 in response to what the site authors perceived to be a real need for a one-stop information resource for the Burren. The burrenbeo team has worked tirelessly, using their own resources, to bring you the information and images you see here. However this is very much the early stages of what is intended to be a sustained effort to become the on-line information hub or portal site for all things Burren.
Before returing to Ireland Ann worked fulltime as a researcher for Newsweek (International) magazine in London and also part-time at the New York Times offices. With a keen interest in the emerging multimedia industry she then spent a number of years managing numerous Web/CD Rom projects. Ann continues to develop her interest in technology and chooses to be involved with innovative projects that embrace technology in a practical and creative way to the benefit of local communities. Ann is responsible for co-ordinating the design and content aspects of the burrenbeo website and is involved in the design and delivery of the Burrenbeo 'Eco-Beo' course in Burren national schools.
Co-founded Burrenbeo following a PhD study he undertook titled 'The impact of agricultural practices on the natural heritage of the Burren uplands', Brendan is particulary interested in, and hopes to contribute to, the protection of the Burren, and other such regions throughout Europe and elsewhere, by promoting awareness, understanding, and appreciation of these special places, and of the knowledge and skills of the people that have, over countless generations, sustained them. To address some of the issues identified through his research, Brendan co-founded burrenbeo and is responsible for the research and future direction of the burrenbeo project. Brendan is presently managing the European funded LIFE project 'Farming for Conservation in the Burren'.
