- Freddie Wilkie's family, through several past generations, has its roots steeped in the shipping industry on the River Swilly working at the, now closed, Letterkenny Port of Ballyraine. The port was no longer used for commercial shipping after the 1960s and its warehouses were demolished in 2001. The coal yard still remains on the old site.
