Title

BUKY - BRURIA BRENNER

Description

The textile art of Buky reflects both her love of Jewish tradition and her affection for beauty and esthetics. She has been influenced by Jewish design traditions embodied in the rich ornamentation of ritual objects, carved and painted synagogue adornments, manuscript illuminations and calligraphy and folklore. In her works many motifs from these traditions are given a contemporary interpretation. They yield a splendid display of Jewish perception, full of color, imagination, liveliness and inspiration.

Buky creates her works using the technique of felt applique, in which the felt is hand-stitched on selected velvet materials. In these highly stylized compositions, the softness of the textiles imparts warmth, and the numerous variations of the felt shades create rich and vivid color harmonies, joyful and sensuous.

Known to her friends as "Buky", Bruria Brenner was born in Haifa to Holocaust survived parents. She studied textile design at Shenkar College in Ramat-Gan and earned a master's degree in Talmud at Bar-Ilan University.
